EFT Tapping: Emotional Freedom TechniqueApr. 13, 2025

EFT Tapping is defined as Emotional Freedom Technique. It involves tapping on acupressure points on the body while focusing on a target emotion like anxiety, fear or anger that arises from a situation. The goal behind tapping is to provide a holistic alternative to calm stress, anxiety, worry or any other negative emotional blockages and replace them with love. Tapping also helps to calm the nervous system by targeting specific points on the body like, side of hand under pinky, eyebrow, side of eye, cheekbone, under nose, chin, collarbone, under arm and top of head. The basic tapping points can be self-taught; however, it is highly beneficial and recommended to do tapping with someone who is certified in EFT.
I learned tapping with Gabrielle Berstein through her Gabby app and Brad Yates on YouTube. I am not a certified EFTpractitioner, I have found this technique helpful for myself and am sharing it as a resource if you find it beneficial for you. My goal for this blog is to provide you with information for another easy resource to help restore balance to your mind, body, and soul.
Tapping can be done anywhere you can find a quiet space and only takes 5-10 minutes. For me I follow the guidance of either Gabreille Bernstein or Brad Yates when I want to do a tapping session. They are trained in the EFT technique and have pre-recorded videos for you to follow along which makes it easy. You can find EFT coaches online with ease, choose whoever makes you feel good. Efforts to introduce calmness into your environment in triggering situations enable self-soothing and reconnection with oneself. Tapping does not take the place of a professional doctor or therapist. This is simply an alternative technique to reduce stress and restore harmony within only if it feels right for you.
The following is an example of the process of tapping. First you find the MPI (most pressing issue/feeling) that you would like to move from one state to another. You can then rate that on a scale from 1-10. Once you have done that you take some deep breaths and begin following the guidance of the EFT coach. You begin by tapping your fingertips on the side of your hand below the pinky. While you are doing that you say out loud or to yourself a positive affirmation about the love and acceptance you have for yourself even though you are feeling a (MPI) negative emotion about life or a situation. You then continue tapping on 9 points on your body while saying an affirmation about the negative emotion that you would like to release. This helps to bring yourself back to a state of calm, love and acceptance. Tapping on these points while saying the affirmations in turn takes your awareness off the negative emotion which allows your nervous system to calm down and restores your mind and body back to a lower level of stress. Tapping is not a way to suppress the negative emotion, it is about feeling it, processing it in a healthy way and releasing it. Feeling all our emotions is necessary, we ride the waves of ups and downs that life presents us with the best we can.
You can also use tapping to reinforce positive emotions you have or want to have about a situation. You can pretty much tap on anything you want, google what you are looking for and there will probably be an option to tap. EFT and tapping are interchangeable terms for this technique. When I use tapping, I can feel immediate relief in my mind and body. I have a strong sense of calm, peace and love when I am finished with a 5–10-minute tapping. You can also repeat it as many times as you need to. This is another great holistic resource that you can use at any time to help you connect back to yourself with love. I hope you found this information valuable in supporting your journey to peace. My goal is to share resources that anyone can use to create a space within themselves that is safe, compassionate and full of love.
